My Top 6 Podcasts for Business Owners

We see over 3,000 advertisements a day! As business owners, we need to be as focused as possible on the content that will help us succeed and take actionable steps towards that success. I would love to make time to sit down and read everyday, but lately I feel like I live out of my car and I am sure some of you are feeling the same way. Since I have been driving so much, I have been finding podcasts that make my driving time productive. Believe me, I love hi-lighting and dog-earing books so that I can come back to information that I find most pertinent, but the thing I cherish most about podcasts is that most of them put the resources they mention in the show notes. When I am back at my workspace (which fluctuates between my music room at home and my desk at my studio) I can go to the podcast episode notes and without having to re-listen, I can look up what they referenced that I want to action. Here are my 6 favorite podcasts for business owners. I hope you get as much out of them as I have!!!

1) PRODUCTIVITY STRAIGHT TALK by AMBER DE LA GARZA

This podcast is top on my list for a few reasons. Amber is a Las Vegas local which means a lot to me, because she interviews a lot of entrepreneurs in my community and I can learn more about what is going on in my city. Secondarily, her podcast is all about productivity and interviewing business professionals on their productivity habits. Best of all, at the end of each podcast she encourages you to take action on the information you received. She doesn’t do this just for you to listen as say “Oh, yes that sounds nice.” She wants you to succeed and be more productive in your business. As business owners, we all take in as much information as we can, but most of us lack on the follow through of implementing and taking action. After listening to Amber’s productivity tips, you will want to rush to your workspace and start taking immediate changes. Amber switches the format from interviews with productive industry professionals to solo podcasts where she gives you tips and tricks to succeed in everyday business. She is clear, concise, and has a slight sarcastic tone, which engages me and keeps me excited for each week’s episode.

2) CONVERGE: THE BUSINESS OF CREATIVITY by DANE SANDERS

As a photographer, I have been following Dane Sanders for years. I first saw him speak at a photography convention called WPPI a few years ago and his words resonated with me. At the talk I attended, he lectured on the negative stories we tell ourselves and how changing our sentences by ending them with “up until now” can have a huge impact on our mindsets. By saying aloud that we weren’t good at something “up until now” or we weren’t successful “up until now” can actually make all of those things start to come true. If you are a photographer I highly recommend reading his book “Fast Track Photographer.” Dane hasn’t been a photographer for some years now, but has been coaching photographers and business professionals for years individually as well as at his yearly conference called “Go Summit.” Dane’s podcast is interview style and he speaks with businesses from all reaches of this globe that stem from creativity. Sometimes they talk about mindset, sometimes they talk about the necessity of failure, sometimes they talk about the difference in the definition of creativity, but all of the time they inspire and drive us forward by being authentically human. This is a must-listen podcast for creative entrepreneurs.

3) AKIMBO by SETH GODIN

Akimbo by Seth Godin

Seth Godin. The godfather of business, marketing, positioning, and making things happen. This is a brand new podcast that Dane Sanders turned me on to. He only has two episodes right now, but I have listened to both episodes twice over. If you have never heard this man’s name and you are in business, you have some light reading to do to catch up. “All Marketers Are Liars”, “Purple Cow”, and “Tribes: We Need You To Lead Us” should get you a good head start! In Seth’s words “Akimbo is an ancient word, from the bend in the river or the bend in an archer’s bow. It’s become a symbol for strength, a posture of possibility, the idea that when we stand tall, arms bent, looking right at it, we can make a difference. Akimbo’s a podcast about our culture and about how we can change it. About seeing what’s happening and choosing to do something. The culture is real, but it can be changed. You can bend it.” It has risen to number three on my list just from the first two episodes and I am excited to hear the rest. He also addresses questions from his followers after each episode pertaining to the last week’s content, which I love to hear.

4) STYLE YOUR MIND by CARA ALWILL LEYBA

Style Your Mind with Cara Alwill Leyba

Sorry guys, but this podcast is all about the ladies! If you are a boss babe and want to feel empowered, this is the podcast for you!!! She is the first person that presented the idea of being “Your Authentic Self” to me and I have been hooked on her contagious, badass energy ever since. She is a best-selling author and life coach who wants all of us to realize how amazing we are and what we have to offer this world. Check out her books “Girl Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity, and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur“, “Fearless & Fabulous: 10 Powerful Strategies for Getting Anything You Want in Life,” and “Like She Owns the Place: Give Yourself the Gift of Confidence and Ignite Your Inner Magic” She is an amazing example of moving from the corporate world (She worked in advertising with MTV for years) to believing that she could change the world one boss babe at a time. Let her guide you on your journey of letting go negative thoughts and emotions and becoming your best and most authentic self!!

5) RICH BITCH by ANGIE LEE

Rich Bitch by Angie Lee

How is your relationship with money? Most of us are actually pushing money away from us instead of bring it into our lives. Angie Lee went from being over $100,000 in debt to earning a 7 figure income…. all before she was 30 years old! I just hit 30 and I’m definitely not there yet, but we all have our own timelines and listening to Angie’s podcast, I have learned so many tools to help me have a better relationship with money and eliminate my debts. From the title you can tell that she is going to be straight-forward and un-censored, right? She is all of those things and more. She tells you like it is because that is the only way we are going to change! If you need inspiration in your business, health, or relationships, this is the podcast for you!!!!

6) BRILLIANT BUSINESS MOMS by BETH ANN

Brilliant Business Moms by Beth Ann

So….. I am not a mom, but I have a lot of things pulling at my attention most days and this podcast is absolutely amazing when it comes to succeeding with a full schedule. Mom entrepreneurs are interviewed on this podcast to talk about how they succeed in their online businesses while still having time for family. Work/Life balance is something all of my friends who own businesses struggle with, and this podcast tackles that issue head-on. Whether you have kids or not, you will learn valuable tips from amazing women who balance it all brilliantly. The world has changed drastically since the internet and internet marketing exploded and some of us are still behind the curve in learning the best way to utilize the web. From building an online shop to creating video ads on a budget, this podcast has it all!

I know that there is a lot of content here, especially if you want to catch up on all of the past episodes and reading material, but this is the list of my favorites, and as all of us are different, I don’t expect you to be interested in all of these. I do hope that you can find some new mentors and find actionable items to help you succeed in what you love to do in life. If you have any questions or want more suggestions on what to read, watch, or listen to, feel free to email me at caseyjadephoto@gmail.com, or subscribe to my blog to keep up with my latest tips and tricks.
